The first edition of the Guidelines for the Management of Penetrating Brain Injury was published in 2001.  Over the subsequent 20 years, the body of published literature associated with this topic increased substantially.  The Medical Research and Materials Command, on behalf of the United States Military, and in partnership with the Brain Trauma Foundation, recognized a strong need to update these guidelines.  The purpose of this course is therefore to provide a review of the methodology, important evidence-based recommendations, and treatment algorithms associated with the updated guidelines.

Understand the important recommendations and treatment algorithms for the management of penetrating traumatic brain injury.

By completing this webinar, participants will be better able to:

  • Describe the updated evidence-based recommendations for the management of penetrating brain injury, recognizing the differences between the first and second edition.
  • Discuss the difference between evidence based and consensus-based recommendations related to the management of penetrating traumatic brain injury.
  • Outline the new treatment algorithms for the management of penetrating traumatic brain injury.
